Experienced Scout Brings Depth to Front Office

The Toronto Maple Leafs have bolstered their front office by hiring Derek Clancey as assistant general manager player personnel, the team announced Tuesday.

Clancey, a native of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, has spent the past seven seasons as the Director of Pro Scouting for the National Hockey League's Arizona Coyotes. Prior to that, he held various scouting roles with the Vancouver Canucks from 1998 to 2020, including assistant general manager.

As assistant general manager player personnel, Clancey will be responsible for evaluating and acquiring talent to support the Maple Leafs' roster and long-term success. His extensive experience in scouting and player analysis will be invaluable to the team's decision-making process.

Fresh Perspective and In-Depth Knowledge

Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas expressed his excitement about adding Clancey to the team's leadership group. "Derek is an experienced and well-respected scout who will bring valuable insights and a fresh perspective to our front office," said Dubas. "His proven track record and in-depth knowledge of the hockey landscape will be key to our success."

Clancey is widely regarded as one of the top scouting executives in the NHL. His ability to identify and develop talent has contributed to the success of several organizations. The Maple Leafs are optimistic that he will be a key asset in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup championship.
